Friends of Mid Devon Community Recycing
Are you a keen recycler? Would you like to volunteer to help spread the message to others?
We'll soon be setting up a non-commercial organisation called the "Friends of Mid Devon Community Recycling". Its main aim will be to reduce the impact of waste on the local environment. It will achieve this by various methods, including improving the information flow between the company and the public, both at an individual level and through local community groups.
A "Friends" member could become their neighbourhood's local recycling expert. We'll give you all the training you need to be able to answer the more unusual questions and equip you with arguments to cajole even the more reluctant recyclers to give it a try!
You might work at the local street or village level, or by going out and meeting people at Farmers Markets and other local community events such as village fetes. What actually happens, of course, will depend on the inventiveness of, and ideas from, the "Friends" themselves. We foresee a group of enthusiasts, supported by MDCR employees, able to draw on guidance and factual support from the company, but often coming up with its own ideas to help increase the district's recycling performance and reduce what's sent to land-fill.
If talking to the public directly is not 'your cup of tea' there will be a variety of other roles such as fund raising, planning, admin etc. so that no willing volunteer need be turned away. If you'd like to help spread the word about why recycling is so important to us and to our children, or to help in any other way, please let us know by clicking here to visit our "Contact Us" page. Put Friends as the subject line, and don't forget to let us know how to contact you (name and email, or address or phone number). If you have any immediate thoughts as to things the Friends might do or might need, please include them in your message.
When we can judge the level and nature of enthusiasm (probably February or March 2009), we'll contact you so the new organisation can move forward.
